Invitation to apply to the Buell Early Childhood Leadership program
Introducing the 2026 Buell Early Childhood Leadership Program
We're excited to share an incredible leadership opportunity for anyone passionate about making a difference for young children and families across Colorado. The Buell Early Childhood Leadership Program (BECLP) is a 9-month transformative program that brings together leaders from diverse sectors—education, business, health, government, philanthropy, and nonprofits—who are working in, advocating for, or passionate about creating positive change for Colorado's youngest children.
Why does this matter? Colorado faces significant early childhood challenges: $2.7 billion in annual economic losses as parents reduce work hours due to child care issues, and over $20,000 in annual child care costs per child. BECLP equips leaders with the skills, tools, and networks to address these systemic challenges.
What makes BECLP special? Fellows participate in a cohort-based learning experience that includes three immersive in-person retreats, nine virtual sessions, and monthly coaching—all designed to help participants discover their leadership style, strengthen adaptive skills, and build cross-sector relationships. Best of all, the program is fully funded by the Buell Foundation at no cost to participants (including accommodations, meals, and travel).
Want to learn more? Join our informational webinar on Tuesday, December 9 at 12:00 PM MST. We'll walk through program requirements and answer all your questions. Applications are due December 19, 2025, and the program kicks off in March 2026.BECLP Website: https://buellfoundation.org/buell-early-childhood-leadership-program/

The Often Missed Opportunity of Planned Giving
In the book “Great Fundraising Organizations,” Alan Clayton tells the story of a nonprofit that experienced the strange phenomenon of compound growth in legacy gifts over just a few years. The current leaders were grateful but confused as to why the increase was happening. A former leader was able to explain that the individuals who had left these gifts in their wills were reached twenty-five years ago when the board and leadership had invested in legacy fundraising.
Protecting Client and Donor Data in an Era of Uncertainty
In this blog post, "Protecting Client and Donor Data in an Era of Uncertainty", I share some background on how nonprofit organizations' data are increasingly targeted by hostile actors. I give some background and five practical steps nonprofits can take to safeguard data.

Homeward Alliance Offers Alternative Talent Pathways for Nonprofits
For nonprofits looking to expand their hiring practices or fill open roles with community-
driven purpose, Homeward Alliance offers a local, alternative talent pipeline through its
EARN and Re-Entry programs.
These programs support individuals who are often overlooked in traditional hiring
processes. The EARN program works with people facing significant barriers to
employment—including those who are unhoused or at risk of losing housing. The Re-
Entry program focuses on individuals transitioning from the justice system who are
ready to work and reintegrate into the community.
Participants in both programs receive job readiness training and wraparound support.
Homeward Alliance collaborates with nonprofit partners to understand specific staffing
needs and help ensure a good match.
